Pre-print checklist for flexible packaging

Flexible packaging has many decision variables: form, material, barrier, filling, dimensions… If these aren't clear before going to print, the process rewinds. This list is for starting the project right the first time.

1 · Filling and form

A doypack, a three-side-seal sachet, or roll film for automatic filling? Filled by hand or by machine? The form and filling method determine the dimensions, the seal allowances and the print layout.

2 · Barrier needs

Is your product sensitive to light, oxygen or moisture? Metallic and aluminum structures provide high protection; transparent high-barrier films protect while showing the contents. Products that release gas, such as coffee, require a valve.

3 · Dimensions and capacity

You go from weight to volume, and from volume to bag size; the filling allowance must not be forgotten. The base width determines whether the doypack stands upright on the shelf — for a product with shelf goals, this small detail makes a big difference.

4 · Add-ons

  • Zip lock — reclosability
  • Valve — coffee and gas-releasing products
  • Hang hole — stand display
  • Easy-open notch

Final check before print

  • Exact dimensions + capacity confirmed
  • Material and barrier selection made
  • Filling method confirmed
  • Quantity and deadline settled
  • Bleed and safe area correct in the design
  • Sample / color approval planned
Let's clarify this decision together.
